We are happy to present our new column – «Gourmet choice»! Every week our blogger Tatiana Bronnikiva meats with different people and asks about their favourite example of ideal “gurmanization”: combination of restaurant’s atmosphere and quality of cuisine.
I guess the name “cordon bleu” is associated (especially for those who hear it for the first time) with aristocratic France, something like “exquisite crouton”. Partly they are right with this associations, but only partly. Here the most interesting thing is not coolness at all, but on the contrary simplicity and genius. But let’s go step by step…
France. Paris. I can definitely tell that the name has come from there, but the question is if the famous dish has come from there as well. Till now nobody knows it for sure.
Today I want to present to you one of simple dishes. We’re going to speak about stuffed potatoes baked in an oven. For this we’ll take potatoes, better of floury type with a lot of starch. Choose quite big tubers. We’ll also need ham, here I leave you the right to choose. You can use smoked or boiled ham. Next step will be an onion knob and cheese. I’ve chosen two sorts. One is usual and the other is blue cheese, this variant is optional.
Talking about what restaurant is the best in town can last for hours and is similar to arguing about what kind of pizza is better, thin-crust or thick-crust one. The thing is that they are different, and as the saying goes, tastes differ. Today we will not go deep into a debate on which restaurants are the best in Moscow but tell you about the five places in the city you absolutely should visit one day.
The first thing that comes to mind when one hears about Christmas is a huge feast with a must-have of roast turkey or beef. Actually, the Christmas’ spread in Catholic countries is not only about roast game or meet. Seafood and fish are on the list of traditional foods in the Spanish-speaking countries, while in the Germanic countries the common frequenter at the table are sausages. However, there is something that no Christmas can go without. A rich and spicy dessert.
Long gone are those times when the New Year Eve’s spreads in households all around Russia were lookalike; back then each family had the table set with the iconic Soviet- style Olivier salad, toasts with butter and red caviar (in case one could get their hands on it), canned sprats, and mandarin oranges. Nowadays the New Year’s spread of a Russian family doesn’t vary depending on the limited assortment of foods in stores, but largely on how stuffed your wallet and how creative your imagination are. However, there is a quite ironic paradox.
Most of scientists insist that autumn depression is directly related to the lack of sun. Although Indian summer showed up twice this year, it’s becoming really hard to overcome depression of late October. Of course, the best solution is making a trip to the seaside, palm trees, white sand and blue bright sky. Despite the fact that this is the best way - it is the most difficult, too. Not many people can just quit their work and go sunbathing in exotic countries.
The first half of the autumn brought not only new fresh air into Moscow restaurant life, but provided an opportunity to have real culinary adventures: to relax in the Mediterranean, to visit sunny Georgia, to plunge into oriental Uzbek atmosphere and to feel Japanese tranquility. Among the number of new but boring places with common European cuisine four new national restaurants look really interesting when it comes to their design, atmosphere and menu.

Summer’s almost gone, the city is cooling down, and city residents are returning home slowly and reluctantly after their holidays.
