Gourmet’s choice in St. Petersburg: restaurant “Korushka”

If we speak about St. Petersburg, it means we speak about bridges, canals… and “Korushka”.

No, today we are not going to talk about fish but about a restaurant located in Zayachiy Island district (Petropavlovskaya Tower, 3).

In July of 2013 a new restaurant named “Korushka” appeared in St. Petersburg. It was opened in Petropavlovskaya Tower. Apart from interesting menu it can also offer its guests a magnificent view of Old St. Petersburg Rostral Columns and Palace Embankment.

It’s especially nice in summer time

You can get to “Korushka” by car, and when it’s navigation season, you can use water routes as there is a quay near here. One should leave the car before the drive-way to the Zayachiy Island where it will be carefully taken to the security parking place, and when you need it again, it will be brought to the restaurant entrance.

Behind you there are tower walls, in front there is the vast Neva river. Ginza Project Holding has prepared and given away three spacious halls which can accommodate 340 people and a light open lounge.

The view of St. Isaac’s Cathedral

The interior of the restaurant reminds a modern loft, the main colors are green, grey and lilac. The main materials used in decoration are oak and leather.

And don’t be surprised with different chairs, they are spread all over the restaurant depending on the spot.

“Korushka” restaurant’s interior

There are lamps hanging from the ceiling and sharing its soft and warm light, and also pots with flowers. You can also find many green plants in long vases hidden between couches, and near the bar counter there is an old-fashioned bookcase for library catalogue where the guests can leave messages for each other. And if you feel like going for a walk, there is an open kitchen working in the inner patio of the restaurant.

Among our chefs we must mention the wonderful Izo Dzandzava and Alexander Belkovich. Izo is the brand-chef of such restaurants as “MamalYga”, “Baklazhan” and “Hochu harcho”.

Izo Dzandzava

For the restaurant “Puri” Izo has elaborated the special menu which includes the unique recipes collected from all over Caucasus. She uses these recipes to create the delicious dishes for the new St. Petersburg’s restaurant “Korushka”.

Alexander Belkovich started his career in Moscow in a big American holding. Then he was invited to St. Petersburg to be the chef of “Terrassa” restaurant.

Alexander Belkovich

Alexander is also the author of the special menu for “Puri” restaurant.

For “Korushka’ restaurant Izo and Alexander has elaborated the special menu with European and Caucasian cuisines which combine excellent quality and oriental brightness.

For example, there are not so many original dishes, but there are a lot of bright names and splendid dishes with smelt: fried smelt with tkemali sauce (460 rub.), fried smelt in nut au-gratin (490 rub.), and home-style smoked smelt fish (580 rub.).

The original dish and the name of the restaurant – “Korushka” (Smelt)

There is also delicious shawarma with chicken legs and spicy sauce sacibeli (310 rub.) and pesto sauce (380 rub.), with which you can order warm and soft lavash cooked in tandoor (90 rub.). There are even drinks “from the chef”: Airan (140 rub.) and oriental coffee (170 rub.).

The dessert menu tempts you with its sweet names: churchela (210 rub.), kada (210 rub.), zgapari (320 rub.), baklava (290 rub.) and madzoon with honey and walnuts (240 rub.).

If you want some classical dessert, order our delicious “Napoleon” cake (320 rub.)

There are salads, cold appetizers where seabass carpaccio (490 rub.) goes beside bean pod pkhali (snack made from milled bean pods with nut paste and adjika sauce, 280 rub.), hot appetizers with five different kinds of kutabs and essential dolma (with lamb, pork or beef, 360 rub.), and the soup menu includes khashlama (420 rub.) and piti (430 rub.). There are also hookahs and a wide range of Georgian wine.

In spite of the fact that “Korushka” restaurant presents itself as a mix of European and Caucasian cuisines, the latter one is definitely dominating. Though you definitely can try pasta and olivie salad here.
