Restaurant “Optimist”

Restaurant “Optimist” is one of the few pieces of Serbian culture located in the center of Moscow.

 

Charm of this establishment is rooted in the rich Serbian culture which has always been famous for its simple, delicious dishes made of vegetables, meat and spices. Meat dishes are cooked from different kinds of meat using “kaimak” – originally fermented and salted milk. Often kaimak is served as an individual cold starter. Typical Serbian dishes include chops with spices “Veshalica”, chopped meat sausages “Cevapcici”, fried meat on skewer “Pecenye”, veal and pork shashlyk “Raznici”, stewed meat with rice and vegetables “Djuvec”, fried in kazan lamb meat “Lamb from sac”, fried pork cutlets, liver, sausages and meat balls mix with onions “Mesano meso” and many other things.

 

A special place in Serbian cuisine is occupied by vegetables. They are served, not depending on the time of the day, as a separate and individual dish or just as a snack. The majority of Serbian salads are largely chopped vegetables dressed with olive oil, but still there are some sophisticated “compositions” made of tomatoes, onions and numerous kinds of “srpska salata” kind.

 

We can’t help paying special attention to Serbian drinks:

The most famous alcoholic drink in Serbia is “Rakija”. Out of huge amount of different kinds of rakija we should mark out “Slivovica” – plum rakija, “Dunja” – quince apple rakija. Their specific taste and aroma originally emphasize the taste of Serbian dishes.

 

In reality Serbian cuisine consists of meat and vegetables, plenty of meat and lots of vegetables, delicious soft bread, desserts which arouse appetite with its outer look, plenty of liquors, infusions, rakija…
